Applications to staff our summer of 2018 workshops are available here and will close on the 2nd of February, 2018.

Thank you for your interest in staffing one of our summer of 2018 workshops. We will be running thirteen workshops in total at this time. 

Below is a list of the different workshops, including the schedules. Also, you will see a list of staff positions needed as well as a description of each position. Please read through this information before applying.

OUR 2018 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

Teen Session One Fort Lauderdale

When: 6/11/2018- 7/01/2018

  • Mandatory Staff Training/Orientation: Sunday, June 10th, 2018; 1pm-7pm
  • The workshop begins on Monday, June 11th, 2018 and runs Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm for the first two weeks. The final week, the workshop hours are 9am-9pm with additional hours on the performance weekend. The conclusion of the workshop will take place on Sunday, July 1st, 2018. You must be available for the duration of the workshop with no exceptions.
  • Performances: Thursday, June 28th at 7:30pm; Friday, June 29th at 7:30pm and Saturday, June 30th, 2018 at 7:30pm the Taft University Center on the NSU Campus.

Junior Session One Fort Lauderdale

Columbus, Ohio Teen (In Partnership with SNS)

When: 07/09/2018- 07/22/2018

  • Mandatory Staff Training/Orientation: Sunday, July 8th, 2018 1pm-7pm
  • The workshop begins on Monday, July 9th and runs weekdays 9am-5pm July 9th-13th and 9am-9pm July 16th-20th. There will be additional hours the days of performance. You must be available for the duration of the workshop with no exceptions.

Lomma, Sweden Junior Workshop- in SWEDISH

When: Sunday, June 17th- Saturday, June 30th, 2018

  • The workshop will run from 9am to 5pm from Sunday, June 17th until Thursday, June 21st ; June 22nd and 23rd OFF for Midsummer; Sunday, June 24th- Thursday, June 28th 9am-5pm; Friday, June 29th 9am-after 7pm show; Saturday, June 30th 11am-after cast party. There will be many additional hours the final days of the workshop as well as extended hours for the performances. You must be available for the duration of the workshop with no exceptions.

Oskarshamn, Sweden Junior Workshop- in SWEDISH

When: Monday, July 9th- Saturday, July 21st, 2018

  • Mandatory Staff Training: Sunday, July 8th, 2018; 6pm-8pm and Monday, July 9th; 6-8pm
  • The workshop begins on Monday, July 9th, 2018 and runs Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm. The final week, there will be additional hours TBA.
  • Performances: Friday, July 20th at 7pm and Saturday, July 21st at 3pm with cast party to follow
  • Positions Available: Director, Music Director, Assistant Director, Script Editor, Choreographer, Technical Director, Graphic Designer, Social and Multi-Media Coordinator, Interns

Oskarshamn, Sweden Teen Workshop- in Swedish and English

When: Monday, July 9th-Sunday, July 29th, 2018 (with additional travel days on either side.)

  • Mandatory Staff Training: Sunday, July 8th, 2018; 6pm-8pm and Monday, July 9th; 6-8pm
  • The workshop begins on Monday, July 10th, 2018 and runs Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm for the first two weeks (with many additional evening hours as we are all living together on campus).  The final week, the workshop hours are 9am-9pm with additional hours on the performance weekend. The conclusion of the workshop will take place on Sunday, July 29th, 2018. Once again, this workshop requires many additional hours from staff members as it is a residential program. Please expect to be completely immersed.

New York, New York Teen Workshop

When: Monday, August 6th- Saturday, August 17th, 2018

NW Kansas Teen Workshops

      • Session One: June 4th-8th, 2018 Phillips County (Huck Boyd Center)

      • Session Three: June 18th-22nd, 2018 Russell County (Russell Community Theatre)
      • Session Four: June 25th-29th, 2018 Thomas County (Colby High School)
  • Mandatory Staff Training: Session One June 3rd; Session Two June 10th; Session Three June 17th; Session Four June 24th
  • Please note that each of these programs is a one week workshop in a different part of north west Kansas. Interested staff members are not expected to staff all four weeks, but we prefer to have you stay for at least 2 workshops. Please be specific in the comments of your application if applying for these workshops.

  • Positions Available: Director/Choreographer, Script Editor/Music Director, Graphic Designer (please note that each artist will need to fill more than one position. The combination of roles will depend on the applicants).

Staff positions

Please keep in mind that these are overall, brief descriptions of our staff positions. With our Lovewell workshops, it is hard to pinpoint exact descriptions because each workshop depends on the specific, unique skills of every single person involved. Maybe you are a fantastic choreographer who also happens to design and sew costumes. Wonderful! All of our staff positions are loosely defined in order to be open to whatever the artist who is filling that position brings to the collaboration. Our main goal is to hire creative, open minded, positive artists that want to joyfully collaborate and always find a way around every challenge. Every staff member will have to do a little bit of everything at some point in the process. Simply tell us what position OR positions (if there is more than one, please be clear) that you feel you could best fill. All positions require a working laptop, proficiency with all Google Suite Apps, and a cell phone.

Also, please note that our policy is that you must first intern on a program in order to be hired as a staff member if you do not have 3 years of professional experience under your belt. Some artists may be offered more than one year as an intern due to training as well as availability of positions.

Director

Manage the creative process with the students and staff; keep the entire process on schedule; oversee every department; report to the Artistic Director and Chapter Manager; guide empower the students through creating a piece of theatre; stage the production; manage all aspects of the production: rehearsal, technical, performance; give the piece an overall continuous feel by bridging the design, the writing, the staging, the music and the choreography; delegate important tasks to other staff members and students; be a solid, positive, understanding leader to the entire creative team by maintaining a ‘we’ and ‘us’ attitude while constantly problem solving.

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent classroom management, organization, use of daily schedules, and communication; strong writing, movement, and a clear understanding of the various aspects of technical theatre.

Full time for duration of the workshop

Music Director

Manage all musical aspects of the creative process; hold vocal warm-ups each morning; guide the students through creating songs; write music with students; chart all songs that are written; rehearse students vocally and on instruments; help manage the sound for the show; help secure the band for the performances; rehearse the band; play for the shows and deliver a score electronically to Lovewell management at the end of the workshop. (If you feel you cannot fulfill this duty, please let us know in advance.)

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent classroom management, organization, writing, and communication; extensive knowledge of Finale, Sibelius, or other comparable music composition software.

Full time for duration of the workshop

Script Editor

Guide the students through the art of creating and writing a cohesive theatrical production; keep an eye on the overall structure of the show and be sure it fits together; create and update a useful outline of the show; keep the script formatted and up to date daily; write a synopsis of the show for the media; insert full lists of the writers of the piece into the script; create and maintain a Google Drive folder for the staff and students with essential documents that are easily accessible, put together character and plot information for the program; deliver the full script electronically to Lovewell Artistic Director at the end of the workshop.

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent writing, classroom management, organization, and communication; strong directing and movement skills.

Full time for duration of the workshop

Choreographer

Manage all aspects of dance and movement in the creative process; hold dance warm-ups each morning; help brainstorm and plot the show with students and staff; contribute to writing scenes when possible; teach students how to tell stories through movement; choreograph all numbers along with the students, stage additional scenes when necessary.

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent classroom management, movement, and communication; strong direction and writing.

Full time for duration of the workshop

Technical Director

Guide the students in set, costume and prop design; communicate and collaborate with the director of the production to execute the designs (along with the costume/prop staff member); work closely with any on site technical personnel; educate and empower students to collaboratively design any technical aspects of the production; oversee sound, lights and stage management in the theatre; manage any rentals or purchases that may be needed for the design; return all rentals after the conclusion of the workshop; organize and manage the storage of the items that were purchased by Lovewell; when available, assist with other aspects of the creative process you are comfortable with.

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent communication, set design/construction, prop design/construction, lighting design/focusing, costume design/construction, budget management; strong classroom management skills.

Part-time for the first week/2 weeks of workshops; full time last week of workshop

Costumes and Props

Work closely with the Technical Director to assist the students in creating the design for the show; educate and empower students to collaboratively design costumes and props; create, secure, purchase costumes for the entire cast while staying on budget and within the framework of the design; when available, assist with other aspects of the creative process you are comfortable with.

Must have and be willing to use the following skills: excellent communication, prop design/construction, costume design/construction, budget management; strong classroom management skills.

Part-time for the first week/2 weeks of workshops; full time last week of workshop

Graphic Designer

Oversee and guide students in the poster, T-shirt and program design; gather ads for program; put programs together and send to printer.  Part-time and not mandatory to be on site

Social and Multi-Media Coordinator: Part-time/on-site

  • Manage and produce high quality content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat to reflect the artistic process, the mission of the organization and publicize each individual show.
  • Sell tickets to the show through innovative online campaigns
  • Film, create and post creative video updates
  • Manage media players during all events (including projectors for productions if needed)
  • LiveStream all performances
  • Coordinate filming of each production
  • Coordinate headshots of each student and staff member

Assistant Director and Assistant Music Director

  • These positions are only available on certain workshops that are at full capacity and require additional assistance.Full time for duration of the workshop when available.

Intern

  •  As an intern you will have the opportunity to work hands on with the students and will provide assistance to the entire staff throughout the process. This means that you should be prepared to run creative exercises, help with tech, contribute to brainstorming, assist with scene writing, assist with staging scenes, run errands, ask what work needs to be done, be on run crew backstage, run lights or sound, etc. By doing so, you will get a good overview of the entire process and at the end of the workshop, should feel well trained in the Lovewell Method. Please note that we do provide small stipends to all interns.
