“Lovewell has played an integral role in the life of our family for the past six years. When my sons first participated in a Lovewell program during middle school, they were rather shy and introverted. Through Lovewell, they blossomed into confident young men willing and eager to be part of an ensemble or shine center stage. Now as they are about to head off to college, they are looking forward to their last summer with Lovewell. The creativity and talent among the students are varied and amazing. “I first came to Lovewell as a parent of a new and tentative student. I watched him grow and flourish at Lovewell, where his talents were encouraged and nourished by both staff and fellow students. Thanks in large part to the confidence and skills he gained there, he is about to receive his masters degree in music composition and head out for a lifetime of doing what he loves, which now includes being on the staff of Lovewell.
Having had my own experience as a songwriter, I know firsthand the satisfaction that comes with creative collaboration, but the Lovewell process takes it to another level. “No other program gives a child the self confidence to do whatever it is they want to do. They have been accepted just as they are and nurtured to express themselves in their own unique way. They have experienced that their voice will be listened to without judgment and that in cooperation with others, they can accomplish anything they choose. Self esteem and a sense of family value are enduring gifts of the Lovewell experience. This is an experience we do not provide our children in our schools, and indeed, is not available in many of our families. It is a life-lesson that builds happy people and good citizens in our communities.”
